A Note of Apology
|
I deeply regret that some of you were offended by our January newsletter. Each month, besides giving an update on Kaleidoscope Konnections, I try to give a simple tip on positive communication. Last month, some friends took my words personally and were offended. I sincerely apologize, and in the future will express myself with more inclusive words.

Healing and Light
February is sometimes referred to as the month of healing and light. This was definitely true of the first two weeks of February.
The six clowns, a sound person, a photographer, and two tour guides went to the Philippines last month, sponsored by Kaleidoscope Konnections and Wesley United Methodist Church in Yakima.
With laughter, love and joy, the clowns brought healing and light to the very poor and poor in spirit in the Philippines. We also received healing and light from the very gracious Filipino people. The troupe was all welcomed with open hearts and arms as we visited orphanages, schools, churches, community plazas, a fishing village, and hospitals.
At each orphanage, children welcomed us with songs, and we shared joy and hope through stickers, balloons, songs, and tricks. The children cheered when we began our performance; hospital patients smiled when we mimed the gospel, and sang along to "Jesus Loves Me."
With your generous love and support, a new powerful clown ministry of healing and light has begun in the Philippines, as well as in the hearts of the clown troupe.

More KK News
Welcome New Board Members! Six new members have joined the Kaleidoscope Konnections Board of Directors. The new executive board is: Michael Weber, President; Jim Lundeen, Treasurer; Lisa Smith, Vice-President; Joyce Brack, Past President, and Sheila Weber, Secretary. Other board members include Don Boyd, Ed Ferguson, Joel Lewton, Jan Stewart Thomas and Teresa Hoon.
New Community Collaborations: Teresa Hoon and I met with the board from the Yakima Police Athletic League to propose a collaborative program to help reduce gang involvement. The proposal involves working with middle and intermediate teens to write and perform a gang prevention theatrical presentation and perform it for their peers in schools throughout the Yakima Valley. If you know of anyone who might like to volunteer or help share the cost, please let me know.
Grant Writing: To get a teen gang prevention presentation off the ground for next fall, I am beginning a search for potential grants and funding opportunities. Please let me know if you have any ideas I should follow up on. Thanks!
December Trip to Teach Clowning in the Philippines: Based on the high interest sparked by our clowning in the Philippines, we are again looking for funds to cover the cost of a trip for a few clown teachers and a guide. Please consider being a part of this invaluable training and outreach opportunity. As the old proverb goes, "Give a fish to someone and they eat for a day; teach them to fish and they eat for a lifetime."
