Dear Friend of Kaleidoscope Konnection,

Encouragment Duck

During the Friday-evening session at a recent women's retreat, I asked everyone to pair up to discuss how they encourage others. One young gal huddled alone in the corner of a big comfy couch. I approached and asked if I could be her partner. She said, "I'm in a bad place right now and I really don't want to be here. Somebody said I had to come, and I don't want to participate."

Late Saturday afternoon, as we all were packing up our belongings to head home, this same young woman came to me with a completely changed demeanor. Her eyes were bright and her voice confident as she told me, "Thank you so much for this weekend. I discovered so much about myself and my relationships.  I feel as if I have a new beginning to my life."

How did this transformation take place? To find out more, I invite you to read about a special technique that I call "D.U.C.K. into the F.A.C.T."

Warmly,

Maureen Mould

What Does a Duck Have to do With a Fact?

In the April newsletter, I mentioned the fact that we all have basic emotional needs:

          F = Focused Attention
          A = Attachment
          C = Control & Power
          T = "Top of the World" (Feeling Capable)

At the Spring Women's Retreat a few weeks ago, D.U.C.K was the acronym used to share encouraging communication techniques that help meet the emotional needs of F.A.C.T.

Still confused?

D stands for Describe and Comment, which helps to meet the need for Focused Attention.
U stands for Use Feeling Words to meet the emotional need of Attachment.
C stands for Choices, which help meet the emotional need for Control and Power.
K stands for Kindle Confidence to meet the need to feel on Top of the World.

For more specific techniques for each category, download the handout here.
